FAQ
READ THESE! THEY WILL MOST LIKELY ANSWER ANY QUESTION YOU CAN THINK OF. IF NOT, DROP US AN EMAIL OR GIVE US A CALL!
I am afraid of bootcamp, can I do it?!
Yes! Bootcamp is more about what you put into it than what fitness level you are. Now if you can't complete a squat with just body weight, or have trouble getting off the couch because your hip seizes, then we recommend starting with some private sessions to get you all fixed up first.
Do I have to tell you what classes I want to come to?
Nope! Come to whatever class your soon to be healthier heart desires! Wake up at 6:00AM and say screw it? No worries, you've got another class to get your ass to at 6:30PM!
How many people are in a class?
Usually no more than 15. We like to keep is small. This allows us to watch each and every one of you and make sure you're not cheating on reps. Don't let us catch you..
I'm going out of town in a week so I'll just start when I get back right?
That's stupid. If you think like that you will continue to have the problem you've been having: Not doing it! Start now and just put your membership on hold.
I want to shower in the morning but will I have to wait for a million people?
No. One, we don't have a million people in bootcamp (around 15 per class remember?) and two, not too many people shower as a lot live close.
I just want to try out a class before I sign up.
Absolutely. Once you have completed an assessment you are more than welcome to participate (otherwise feel free to come watch a class!). The reason we don't allow drop ins is for a couple of reasons: One, our classes are so much more than just squats and lunges for 45 minutes. You will learn and realize strength you never thought possible but with movements that require some learning and it's too hard to try and teach this while there are 14 other people also needing coaching. And two, we don't want you to hurt yourself! Then you won't be able to do anything and that is a real motivation killer. We've only had one person tell us they hated the class in over 3 years. We're pretty confident you won't. And if you do for some reason, we'll prorate your month back to you. Deal?
What times are the classes and how long are they?
There are two per day! That means you really have no excuse. 6:15AM, 6:30PM. All classes are 45 minutes of awesomeness.
How many times a week do I need to come to see results?
Now this is different for everybody but we say no less then 3. 5 is just fantastic. Most people see results within 3-6 weeks. Working out between 3 and 5 times per week paired with a fairly healthy diet will yield dramatic results. It's all about consistency so stop cheating!
How do I start?
Super easy folks. Just click the "Join Up!" button and fill out the fields listed. All your info will be sent securely to us here at Urban Fitness. You'll get an email immediately explaining how to schedule your assessment.
What is the assessment and do I have to do it?
It's awesome and yes because mother says so. The assessment is A WORKOUT, but it is also our time to really get to know YOU. We will take weight, measurements (if you so desire) and body fat. Next we will run you through a functional movement screen (FMS) to assess how broken you are. We will go over any questions you have regarding nutrition. After this we will run you through a workout. We will finish by formulating a game-plan for your goals. This sessions is built around you. If you are experienced already and just want to kickass in bootcamp then great! We will hone your kettle-bell skills and make sure you are optimizing your capability throughout complex movements whether it be the snatch or streamlining your sprint form.
What is a FMS - Functional Movement Screen?
This is a brilliant system we use to assess how you are moving. We'll explain more in depth during the actual screen. It's for the office sitter and athlete alike. Essentially your body is always in survival mode. You tell it to move (or not) and it does. Whether you sit all day and go running when you get home or are super active, you are always making demands. Ever hurt your knee? Did you stop walking? No, you kept walking and limped a little till it went away - or so you thought. This could have been made possible by your other leg compensating and working harder. Sometimes the body returns to normal, sometimes not. This screen tells us how your muscles - primary and stabilizers - are working. Skipping this step can start making you stronger in bad patterns. Once we establish an accurate screen - about 10 minutes - we will show you a few stupid simple ways to correct these movement patterns. These corrective exercises take about 5 minutes at the beginning of each workout. Pretty damn good trade-off for keeping you moving smoothly and injury free.
Can I pick my trainer?
You won't want to. We are all too awesome. How we do it at Urban Fitness is that you rotate through the trainers throughout the week. Every trainer is equally knowledgeable and can answer any question you have whether it be about weight loss or gaining 50 LBS of lean hard muscle (yikes). We have had phenomenal success with this strategy and our clients love it. Each trainer can push you in a slightly different way. All the trainers know each of you by first name and what your story is. We keep impeccable detailed files on each and every one of you so we know exactly what is going on. So be nice or we'll write nasty things. Just kidding.
Are the workouts inside or outside?
All our workouts originate at the Urban Fitness Studio. We may take you around the block or out front to kick some ass on the pavement but the studio is always near.
I am super intimidated about starting and/or the trainers!
Stop fretting. Remember, more people are where you're at than not. We do this every day and will make you feel at home right away. Yes, our trainers are super badasses but remember, they are on YOUR side! We are here to help you at each step of the way. Everyone needs a little something different and we provide just that. We've had some interesting requests. Try us.
